Letter from local MP: Stephen Handley dated 15/01/2010
The Gower building had been empty for a very long time and driving past it every day and looking at its deterioration was so very sad to see, I so wanted the building to be up and running again and didn’t know what to do. I kept looking at the local newspaper and saw an article stating that it was going to be converted into living accommodation, this was fantastic news.
Then some time later I read it was going to be knocked down and the land used for redevelopment!
I put an email together and sent it to the council asking for the building to be handed to the people of St Georges and put back to community use. This email seem to have landed upon deaf ears, for short time later a sign appeared on the front of the building “FOR SALE” by Private Treaty.
Once again I wrote to the council and yet again no answer, so I wrote again and yet again no answer. So I decided to start a petition and wrote to David Wright to intervene and save the building. I got a letter from David Wright MP saying he was behind the petition and backed me all the way in saving this historical building.
