Mosaic made for Gower Old School House

Art made for Gower Old School House

The mosaic tells the story of the landmark Gower Old School House in St Georges being brought back to life for the use of the community.

Children at St Georges Primary School have created a piece of art to illustrate the heritage of St Georges and to imagine the future of the Gower Old School House.

Workshops took place at the school with Claire Cotterill Mosaics.

The mosaic was paid for by the Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in your High Street Fund.  Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council ward member for St Georges, said: “The making of the mosaic has been a great way to involve young people in the history of the area and to give them a stake in its future.

“It has helped to bring young and old together.  The mosaic shows the mining history of the area and some of the young people’s ideas for the future.”

Head of St Georges Primary School, Shaun Tyas said: “The completed Gower Old School House project will provide a stunning educational resource for the schools in the area.”
